Yesterday, Sunday January 20th 2013, 16 newly recruited police officers were burnt to death while six others were critically injured, when the 18-seater Hummer bus they were traveling in collided with a Mercedes Benz 190 in Omu Aran, Kwara State, Nigeria. The victims were said to be on their way to Nasarawa State when the accident occurred precisely at about 10am yesterday morning.

The Mercedes Benz car, with registration number AC 345 DKA had a locked steering and in an attempt by the driver to free it, the vehicle veered off to the other side of the road and the bus rammed into it. The bus carrying the police officers hit an electric pole and a house then burst into flame, killing most of its occupants. The driver of the Benz was not injured in the accident. The police are looking for the driver of the Mercedes Benz 190 now.
