A robbery incident which led to the death of two policemen at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Wednesday night has exposed the porous security network at the nation’s busiest Airport.  The deadly looking robbers, numbering over 10, beat the airport security network to unleash terror on the entire airport. They also made away with huge amount of foreign currencies from some bureau-de-change operators.

Tribune reports that the armed robbers had entered the airport through the terminal zero, proceeded to the arrival hall and penetrated the departure hall of the terminal.
The robbers reportedly trailed a large amount of money transported in a bullion van en route to Dubai to the departure lounge, they struck as as soon as the monies were carried in bags to the departure lounge.
A witness told Tribune that on entering the terminal, the armed robbers ordered all the users of the airport to lie down while those who refused to comply were shot at.
According to Punch, the robbers were said to have been engaged in a gun duel for about 30 minutes by policemen attached to the airport. The gunfight, it was learnt, resulted in the death of two policemen and one armed robber, who was said to have tied local magical bands all over his arms and body.
The General Manager, Corporate Communications at the Airport, Yakubu Dati, confirmed the robbery.
